In This Era of Federal Chaos, Local Public Banks are Urgently Needed

We are in a pivotal moment.

Financial instability and political volatility at the federal level threaten the health, safety, and economic well-being of our communities. The richest people in the world are gleefully wielding chainsaws as they boast about destroying livelihoods, essential services, public benefits, and entire local economies. If we didn’t know how vulnerable we are, we know it now.

The chaos at the federal level demonstrates the vital importance of real community-led institutions at the local level.

Public banking is a key solution at the forefront of the movement towards local control of our own financial resources. Resources that you own and provide. We don’t have to live in the chaos, there is a hopeful and strong path forward to democratize finance and support resilience, economic justice, and local empowerment. An economic ecosystem that can thrive, regardless of the casting about happening in Washington.

Public banking is within the East Bay’s power to create. Effective progress needs more advocates, community groups, and local elected officials as partners.
