Exciting News: Grant Secured to Propel Public Banking Forward

Building a Regenerative Economy Together

We’re thrilled to announce that Friends of the Public Bank East Bay (PBEB) has been awarded a two-year Core Capabilities Grant from One Project, valued at $198,000 annually. This transformational funding will empower us to take significant strides toward creating a public bank that serves the community—not Wall Street.

What This Means for Our Mission

This grant builds on other generous funding from the California Wellness Foundation and the Irvine Foundation (among others) and is a major milestone in our journey to open the first new public bank in the U.S. in over 100 years. It will help us move toward:

  • Completing our rigorous business plan for a public bank tailored to local needs.

  • Enhancing our community outreach efforts to ensure diverse voices continue to shape the bank’s development.

  • Building stronger partnerships with local governments, community lenders, and grassroots organizations.
