Building Community Advocacy and Powerful Resistance

Public Bank East Bay advocates and other state wide leaders in public banking celebrating the introduction of AB 857 in 2019, enabling the establishment of public banks.

In the coming second Trump Administration, vulnerable communities will be on the front lines, and all of us will face many threats, changes and challenges. Sharp blows will be aimed at racial, economic and social justice; many people will need protection and shelter. The progressive forces in this country will be fighting on several fronts. We will find paths forward, even in this shadow.

At Public Bank East Bay we have re-confirmed our commitment to our project. We will continue building local and regional power and systems change, even as national policies and politics are casting about and turning away.

Public banks can be a port in a storm, where regional innovation, collaboration and sustainability are valued. Affordable housing for our neighbors can be created, clean energy infrastructure can continue (even as federal programs dry up), and small businesses started by your friends or family members can thrive.

By strengthening local power and control over how our public funds are used, we can support our communities and stop feeding a system of profits for industries and interests that run counter to our values.

Local and regional advocacy is a powerful force multiplier for justice, a trailblazer for paths forward and a bulwark against the pipeline of public funds flowing into private profits.

The arc of history is still in our hands and we will bend it towards justice.
